Dom Phillips Institute

We were born from the mourning of yet another act of violence that occurred in the Amazon Rainforest and, at the same time, from the enchantment Dom Phillips had for its richness and peoples.

The legacy

flows into a

Movement

Photo: Reproduction

We create, here and now, a movement of connection, engagement and education that echoes the voices of the forest, its people and ancestral knowledge.

We want to contribute to the construction of a society in which humans feel like nature, respect and are engaged in the protection of all forms of life.

Our projects

Photo: Reproduction.
Our first project takes its name from the last photo caption used by Dom on his social media and aims to promote an educational movement about the Amazon, guided by its people, inspiring reconnection and co-responsibility with the nature of which we are part. To do this, we will gather content about the Amazon, for the Amazon, with the people from the Amazon and share it on an accessible digital platform with wide reach.

Who was Dom Phillips?

Dom
Born in England and enchanted by Brazil, the journalist began his career covering the music scene and had it violently interrupted in his favourite place, the Amazon, denouncing environmental crimes occurring in the territory.

Passion
His desire was to learn more and more about the socio-biodiversity of the forest, and understand the conflicts, the precautions and cultures that concern it. To do this he talked to all kinds of people. He believed that the Amazonian people have valuable knowledge for preservation and the ability to live collectively in symbiosis with nature.

Action
During his last trips, he was researching for his unfinished book “How to save the Amazon, ask the people who know”. This is what led him to Vale do Javari, the territory with the largest number of isolated indigenous people in the world. And that’s where Dom together with the indigenist Bruno Pereira were murdered.
