Panel: Origin and Future: Amazonian Culture in the Fashion System (Panel and guests organized by Rio 2C, Summit Fashion System and Instituto Dom Phillips)
In the cosmology of many Indigenous peoples, the act of dressing is part of a sacred relationship with nature. More than just adornments, graphic designs, ornaments, and featherwork carry symbolism and stories that not only cover but also shape the body. In recent years, the global fashion world has turned its attention to these elements, but to what extent does this recognition respect cultural roots and ancestral knowledge? How do designers of Indigenous origin relate to the world of fashion?
At the invitation of the Dom Phillips Institute, this panel brings together artists, thinkers, and Indigenous leaders to discuss the challenges and pathways to balancing worldviews and creating strategies for coexistence.
